Toaster Oven Mitts

If you want the b vitamins from your meat to give you the energy your body needs, a toaster oven would be a better choice since the microwave destroys most of the b vitamins.
Vegetables are the same way with their precious vitamins and minerals being annihilated.  I read this one thing that said microwaving your food is like dropping an atomic bomb in your food and eating the remnants.

If you are trying to use the toaster oven more than the microwave to preserve the nutrients in your food, these mitts are great.
These mini mitts are perfect for taking hot items out.
My mom got these for me, but I think you can get a pair for $10 on etsy.

False Alarms & Workouts Prior to Due Date

I should have known it wasn't real labor when I could stand in the parking lot and take pictures before going into the hospital.  I'm so thankful my mom was here the week before to care for me during all the early labor.
False Alarm #2
 False Alarm #3
Swimming laps with my dad and dan
Working out during the 3rd trimester- I recommend swimming if you can.  If you have any back pain getting the weight off can feel amazing.

Relax as much as you can to make sure you have energy during labor.
I did a small amount of strength training, but wanted to make sure I was not sore at all.  I recommend sticking to lighter weights and only do exercises that you have been consistently doing (nothing new) to avoid any soreness.  You body uses so much energy to recover from a workout that leaves you feeling sore, which could leave you tired before you even go into labor.

I wanted to have as much endorphins as I could to help with the pain, so I would run intervals on the treadmill (so I could get off if I needed to or if I went into labor).  I only recommend running if you have been prior to and during your pregnancy otherwise just walk, which I did a ton of especially during early labor.  Although the walking feels great, it just doesn't give me the endorphin rush like running does.

Take Responsibility = Change

I love this because I see so many times the blame game. I've been guilty of it myself.  Blaming someone else for where you are at or for why you do sometime.  Ex. It's my husbands fault because he opens the bottle of wine, or because he is not a healthy eater.  It's my job that keeps me from working out or eating heathy, kids, money, whatever.

The problem is when we blame someone or something else then they are in control of you, which leaves your helpless and in victim mentality. When we take ownership and responsibility for our own actions then we can really change. You are in control.

If I had to guess who ever it is that you might be putting the blame on for carrying extra weight or being out of shape is probably not spoon feeding you.

If you want to make real changes in your life, let go of the excuses and take responsibility for your actions and your will then be able to finally get to your destination, whatever that may be.

Next session starts May 7th- July 28th :) Sign up today to start making that change a reality.

Healthy & Fit Pregnancy

So...my list of pregnant moms following this blog is growing, so I wanted to share some things that work for me to say fit and healthy through out my pregnancy.

Since...this pregnancy has stolen my love for cooking. I keep to really simple things at home.
My current favorite is wraps with LOTS of mixed greens, Trader Joe's Mayo, string cheese, Applegate Farms chicken, wrapped up in an Ezekiel Tortilla (sprouted grain and a complete protein). It's quick, easy, good, and keeps me full because the fat, protein, and fiber.
I've been addicted to fruit I just love strawberries, peaches, watermelon, and cantaloupe, which are all foods high in vitamin C = good for baby and me especially before labor.

One of my breakfast items I love is:
Mixing McCane's steel cut oats with Trader Joe's Gluten Free Oats, tons of cinnamon. I also use way more water than it calls for and I make a big batch to last me though out the week.  I put them in my individual pyrex containers so I can just put them in the toaster oven in the morning.
I add full fat (yes full fat) cottage cheese, Trader Joe's applesauce and berries.
I use full fat dairy products for a smart baby and to keep me full longer. I actually end up eating way less by having the full fat than fat free or low fat items.

You can also add wheat germ for folic acid to prevent birth defects.

If you follow my blog, then you know that I feel best eating Paleo (grain free), but with being pregnant it is just way to much protein than my body needs.  I recommend listening to your body with what is best for you. I still make sure I get enough protein in and a little bit with each meal, but not as much as I needed before.
I eat a lot of eggs because they are so good for the babies brain development and the perfect ratio of protein and fat.

I hard boil eggs to have on hand for a quick snack and not much work to prepare.

The workouts: (Yes- I'm stretching my Lululemon workout clothes all the way to the end.  Luckily... they have a lot of stretch and always seem to shrink back down after I take them off.  I just wear a belly band underneath to keep my shirts from riding up and to cover the gap.  I also put on a bandeu top for more coverage for the girls)

I recommend always listening to your body.  My workouts have changed with each trimester as well as daily/weekly.  Some days I run and feel amazing other days I just walk.
Either way if you are cleared by your doctor to workout it is a MUST!

Not just for the improved energy and all the thousand of other benefits, but for your MIND.
I know for me it really helps me feel ready (or as ready as I can be for labor) because at least I still feel great and working out develops mental toughness, which can strengthen your ability to control what you think about and what your body can endure cause your mind doesn't let your body quit.

I like to vary my workouts up with spin, kickboxing, running, strength training, walking, and swimming, and stand up paddle boarding (but I'd hardly call that a workout with no waves on the lake its more relaxing).
General rule of thumb is not trying anything new while pregnant and if you did it for three months or more before you got pregnant you can continue while pregnant.

3 Prego Workout Tips:

1. Might need TUMS before hand - Don't let the Heartburn stop you

2. Kegel with any jumping

3. Don't feel guilty one bit for taking it easy the first trimester.
I recommend doing nothing strenuous or jumping until week 13.  Just because you stopped your first trimester or for a few weeks of sickness doesn't mean you have to stop for the remaining 8 months.

Urban Plates

So...I've finally been to the new Urban Plates in Del Mar and it is my new favorite place. It seems like it's always packed, so I recommend going before or after the lunch and dinner rush.
This picture is from their website, but I tried one of their salads
and a sample of the Soba Noodles and they were both  yummy.

What I love most is that their food is from local farms and producers and they won't break the bank!

Their meat is hormone, antibiotic free and their food is just delicious.

When I saw this wall of leafy greens and fresh produce I totally fell in love with this place.  It's just so nice to have places that have food that make you feel amazing and taste good too.
I highly recommend Urban Plates and it's places like this that really make me miss San Diego.

Jedidiah's Room :)

It feels so good to have Jedidiah's room ready.  I just love being in there. I wanted to post it once the window coverings got here, but they are taking forever, so just imagine shutters in place of the card board in the window.
I found this decal on Etsy and loved it.  Needless to say it was a freaking nightmare to put up! However, I was determined to have this on the wall no matter what it took. Luckily, my husband is a rock star and tried numerous adhesives and creative method to get it to stay.
My mother-in-law got us the book shelf from Pottery Barn :) Thanks mom!
I'm so thankful for all my friends and family that helped us fill it up already! My sister got me a different book for every month I am pregnant. It was so fun to see what book it would be each month.  Thanks Jenn!
I love sitting in the glider and reading him his books even though he is not born yet.

I'm so thankful for many of my cousins, aunts, and grandma Pat that all made it possible for me to get the glider I really wanted for his room.  There generosity will create many memories rocking our babies.

My friend Elvia and her husband made this awesome ruler for us to measure his height!  I love it.  She got the idea from pinterest.
I saw this on Etsy too and loved it.  It made me emotional just reading it.
But get this, my sister-in-law Katie also spotted it for us and got it for us but I don't even think she knew I wanted it.  Thanks Katie!

Since, you pretty much can't have anything in the crib now (no bumpers, pillows, blankets, etc) I decided to make other things the focus in the room instead of the crib.  However, my friend nicole and krystal made me this banner that I just turned into a crib skirt.

We found the exact style of crib I wanted for free on Craigslist. I had a breakdown over the crib not being safe and because it had a ghost sticker on it, but the sticker came off and Dan stood in the crib to prove to me it is safe. Should have got a picture of that.  I haven't had that many crazy pregnancy stories I actually think the extra testosterone is amazing, so I needed a funny store we could laugh about later.
Just imagine the shutters, not the ugly cardboard.  My friends Howard, Nicole, and Krystal made me the wreath and the frame to the right of the window.  I love that almost all of the decorations in his room are made by our friends!  My sister-in-law Katie also made these awesome burp cloths that match his room!
I decide to go with an inexpensive Ikea dresser, so I'm not freaking out when it gets scratched and banged up by kids.
I took down the mirrored closet doors for his closet and put up these curtains instead. I found them at Target and then had my friend Hayden just sow the bottom yellow and black part on them.  Thanks Hayden!

In his closet, I got used this great shelf from Ikea. The baskets are so big they really hold a lot of stuff.
My friend Missy made this for me and it went perfect in his room!  Thanks Missy!
I just need to find a lamp for the side table.  On the black shelf my mother-in-law made us that frame with our baby pictures and a spot to add Jedi's picture and my friends made me his name in all the white frames. Seriously...I don't know what I would have done with out my friends and family they really helped make his room special.

blog

I would show you great and wonderful stuff, but I've been out of storage space for my pictures.  Therefore I can't post anymore.  I'm trying to free up more space and then have lots of great things to share with you. Including the finished babies room :) Stay tuned.

Change Starts with our Thoughts

Hi Fit 2 Wed girls,

With the race at Mission Bay this Saturday there is supposed to parking and trouble getting in and out of Mission Bay, so class will be moved to the Carmel Valley location.  I apologize for the last minute change, but I think it will be better.  Also, I made a mistake last Saturday I said class this Sat was going to be at the convention center, but I was wrong the convention center is on the 17th.

Class this Saturday March 10th will be at
Torrey Hills Community Park
Interstate 5 exit on to Carmel Mountain Rd, exit 32 (from Local Bypass/CA-56). Turn Right onto Carmel Mountain Rd. Turn Right onto Vista Sorrento Pkwy. Turn Left at Calle Mar De Mariposa, past the elementary school, and into Torrey HillsCommunity Park (drive straight up into the park, we meet by the picnic tables).

Don't forget to bring your journals to get checked.

I don't know about you, but there is always something I want to change (more organized, cleaner house, spend less money, help others more etc).
If you have goals to lose weight, workout consistently, eat more nutritious foods, sleep more, stress less, whatever it is the key to taking our "want to" to actually by "what I do" is by getting a hold of our thoughts and changing them.

I encourage you to stop let your mind just run wild with whatever thought comes in and just let it snowball.  You are intelligent women who can CONTROL what you think.  When thoughts are negative, demeaning, jealous, mean, ugly, complaining, critical, judgemental, fearful, anxious, etc.
You can make a CHOICE to NOT think those things. When they come into your mind, take a step back and think about what you are thinking about and then think about something positive or something positive about the situation.

The fruit of a negative (critical, judgemental, mean, anxious, fearful, jealous, worrisome) mind can include, but not limited to:
  • headaches
  • digestive problems
  • grinding teeth
  • insomnia
  • breakouts
  • cancer
  • serious illnesses
  • lack of energy
  • depression
  • stomach pain
  • undue fatigue
Negative Mind
Ex. "Oh..man- I blew it -I shouldn't have eaten that or eaten so much, I'm such a loser, I will never be able to lose weight, it's just too hard, I will never be able to change, she just doesn't understand she has always been "skinny", I already blew it so I might as well keep going and eat whatever I want now, I will start again tomorrow"

Positive Mind
Ex. Okay..I ate past the point of fullness and I wish I would have gone for the more nutritious options available.  I will remember this next time.  I will learn from this and be mindful of how uncomfortable I feel now that I am so full I have no energy and feel blahh, I can lose weight, I will learn from this and next time I will eat a little slower so I can feel the fullness and stop when satisfied, it is just one mean, I have the rest of the day TODAY to eat the right amount for my body and to CHOOSE foods that support my goals.  Good learning experience to avoid that trap of eating when I am X (lonely, bored, tired, anxious, worried, overwhelmed, stressed, etc).  I know that X is a weakness for me to want to eat, so next time I feel like X I know that eating X or eating until I'm stuffed won't take the problem away instead I will CHOOSE To do X (read my bible, call a friend, get out of the house, pray, workout, etc)

Negative Mind
Ex. "I'm not in as good of shape as the other girls in class, I'm still such a slow runner, I hate always feeling left behind, I hate holding everyone up, I will never be a fast runner like those girls, this is too hard for me"

Positive Mind
Ex. "Wow, I really pushed myself today and did the best I could.  I can't wait to see what pace I will be at the end of the 12 weeks, I look forward to being able to keep up with the class more, but for now I'm so happy that I am blessed enough to be able to workout and be a part of this program.  I'm so thankful I am able to exercise and move my body"
